Choosing the right web hosting and domain provider will save you a lot of grief and work. In my more than 20 years as a webmaster, I have unfortunately already had many negative experiences that I would have liked to have spared.

For WordPress websites, you should use an optimized WordPress hoster that understands its craft and delivers your blog quickly to visitors. The domain can be registered directly with the hoster, or alternatively with a specialized domain provider.

Before I get to the step-by-step guide to web hosting, I’d like to clarify some basic questions that can arise when it comes to WordPress hosting.

Webhosting

Web hosting is a service that allows organizations and individuals to put a website on the Internet. A web host or web hosting service provider is a company that provides the technologies and services needed to view the website or blog on the Internet. Websites are hosted or stored on special computers called servers.

What should WordPress hosting be able to do?

If you want to give your visitors a really good user experience, you can’t avoid a fast website. For the CMS WordPress, you should choose a professional who specializes in optimizing for WP.

In addition, your choice should be limited to providers from your country, so that the way to your visitors is as short as possible and the laws that apply to you are complied with.

Create a new box

Choose a domain provider and register a domain

Basically, there are two ways to register domains and connect them to your own web host.

Domain at the web host

Every web hosting provider offers to book domains directly with the web hosting.

This is definitely the easier method because you don’t have to worry about anything. Changes to the DNS server are usually also taken over by the provider, which can be both an opportunity and a disadvantage.

Specialized domain providers

Specialized domain providers such as NameCheap offer full graphical access to the domain robot.

Such a service is handy if you really want to manage a lot of domains and make frequent changes to your domains.

But you also need deeper DNA knowledge.

Register and activate domains

Since this is a guide for beginners, we register the domain for the new project directly with Raidboxes.

Attention: Domain registrations are always immediately subject to a fee and cannot be reversed.

In the Raidboxes dashboard you will find the menu item “Domains”. Here you will find all your active domains and you can register new ones or move external ones here.

For a new domain, first enter your desired name and then click on “Check availability”. In part 2 of the series, we already talked about finding a domain.

Follow the next steps to complete the registration.

You can then link your new domain directly to your previously created box.

It can take up to two days for your blog to be available at the new address. In most cases, however, it only takes up to an hour.

Once you have connected your own domain name, you should enable the Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate in the settings.

No matter what you do, the provider has detailed instructions for all problems.

If you need any clarification, you will have the German-language support within one minute via the blue chat widget or by phone for support.

The right WordPress hosting and the domain are crucial parts of an online project, but with the right provider, the implementation becomes child’s play.
